Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi was one of the bravest leaders of India’s First War of Independence in 1857. Born in 1828 in Varanasi, she was named Manikarnika and was trained in horse riding, sword fighting, and warfare from a young age. After the British annexed Jhansi under the Doctrine of Lapse, she refused to surrender her kingdom. Rani Lakshmibai fought courageously against British forces and became a symbol of resistance, patriotism, and sacrifice. She died fighting on the battlefield in 1858, inspiring generations of Indians with her bravery.
