Basistha Mandir, located at the southern edge of Guwahati, is an ancient temple rooted in Assam’s mythological and spiritual heritage. The temple is believed to date back to the Vedic era and is associated with Sage Basistha, one of the Saptarishis, who is said to have meditated here. The present structure was built in the 18th century by Ahom king Rajeswar Singha. Surrounded by hills, streams, and dense forests, the site also includes the sacred Basistha Ashram. With its blend of mythology, natural beauty, and historical significance, Basistha Mandir remains one of Assam’s most cherished spiritual landmarks.
