The history of the Indian flag reflects India’s long struggle for freedom and national identity. The first unofficial flag appeared in 1906 in Calcutta with green, yellow, and red stripes. Later, in 1907, Madame Bhikaji Cama introduced another version abroad. In 1921, Pingali Venkayya proposed a design that inspired the modern tricolour. Finally, on July 22, 1947, the Constituent Assembly adopted the present flag with saffron, white, and green stripes, and the Ashoka Chakra at the center. Each colour represents courage, peace, and growth, while the Chakra symbolizes progress. The tricolour remains a proud symbol of India’s unity and freedom.
